Paul Rodgers 'Free Spirit' Release On June 22nd, 2018

The text below is from Paul's website, the track-list from Amazon. I do wish when this kind of stuff goes out to press they'd check it. Free played both 'Love You So' and 'Catch A Train' live numerous times!! In fact FREE played 'Catch A Train' at the Royal Albert Hall on February 10th, 1972! The only track on this set I'm unaware Free played 'live' over their career is 'Magic Ship', which is a really nice addition and was one of the show highlights.

The 'Free Spirit' tour seemed to split fans into those who enjoyed the shows, and those who didn't. Now everyone will have a chance to make up their own minds as to how well the material was performed on the last night.

------------------------------

On June 22, 2018 Paul Rodgers – Free Spirit – Celebrating The Music of Free will be available on CD/DVD, Vinyl, Blu-ray and across all digital platforms.

The 16-song collection recorded at a sold-out performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall includes inspired performances of rock hits like “All Right Now,” “Wishing Well,” “Fire and Water,” and many deep tracks—some of which were never performed live by the original band, such as “Love You So” and “Catch a Train.” Along with this collection, those who purchase the Blu-ray and vinyl can expect exclusive footage and bonus tracks from opening acts Jasmine Rodgers, artist and multi-instrumentalist daughter of Paul, and Deborah Bonham, rock and blues vocalist sister of Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham.

“When I went down to London in ’67 I had three things in mind,” says Rodgers. “To survive, to find peace of mind, and to make music doing it. When Free came together there was a creative magic around us, something unique and different. I felt again the strength of that magic on the 2017 Free Spirit Tour. Playing the songs we wrote, I felt the love and recognition the fans have for this music. The band, the fans, and I inspired each other to create and capture these moments in time.”

“We are very excited and extremely honored to be part of this historic event,” says Bruce Quarto, president of Quarto Valley Records. “This performance, perfectly captured in a variety of formats, is truly a rare event that any Paul Rodgers fan will definitely want to watch and listen to, over and over again.”

Paul will be performing with his solo band and a few select dates with Bad Company in the upcoming months. Starting July 18, Jeff Beck and Paul Rodgers will embark on the co-headlining Stars Align Tour, with Ann Wilson of Heart serving as the opening act, along with Deborah Bonham.

How To Get The Free Appreciation Society Magazine

Despite the fact that in the margin it does say (in the second paragraph above the current issue photograph) 'email for details' I still get people asking about magazines and subscriptions via the 'comments' - which are, incidentally, turned 'off'

If you are interested in obtaining the magazine here is a rough guide.

The Free Appreciation Society (FAS) magazine email is
fasarticle@aol.com

Single issues are available via Ebay or you can get them directly if you request them, by email (above). Payment information will be provided when I know what you want and where you are on our large planet. However;

In the UK a single issue is £4.30, which includes postage and packing.
For Europe its £5.90

KOSSOFF: The Band Plays On - Gigs This Week

John Buckton, Terry Slesser and friends continue their excellent tribute to Paul Kossoff and Back Street Crawler with a couple of gigs later this week. Go see them if you can. Its well worth checking them out and its always great to hear Terry singing the BSC material.

The set will include a few Free songs along with tracks from both 'The Band Plays On' and '2nd Street'.  Always a pleasure.

Below you'll find 'The Hunter' taken from the show at The Musician in Leciester last year.

REMEMBER : Andy Fraser - Paul Kossoff : 2018

These anniversaries come around so quickly and with Andy Fraser (3 years gone - March 16th) and Koss (42 years tomorrow) March may well mark the beginning of the spring, but there's a sadness there with the reminder of our losses.

Play some music today. 'Time Away' is always an option but how about you celebrate both Fraser and Koss with 'Free Live!' and 'Mr Big'. A prime example of what can be done with a bit of volume and a LOT of talent.

"He (Kossoff) influenced so much of Rock guitar, even in the case of some people who didn't know it because they were getting the influence indirectly through other people who loved Kossoff. One example being Angus Young. I think he probably took the intensity of the vibrato, and of course made it his own thing - but I think he had to have gotten that from Kossoff.

He had such an uncanny unitisation of space and simplicity, and playing the right thing and leaving space for everybody else. The way they manoeuvred around each other and the call and response. I just always loved it."

FREE 'Hits A Go Go' Interview.

Thanks must go to SMS on youtube who have now put up the missing piece of the Swiss 'Hits A Go Go' TV show -  the brief interview. Awesome stuff. I wonder what Paul Rodgers thought when the announces calls Andy 'The Leader'... One can only imagine!!

MORE NEW FREE FOOTAGE - 'THE STEALER' LIVE!!!!

Well, I'm not sure where this originates from but it could be the version that also features a short interview that used to appear on bootleg cassettes with the 'Beat Club' material. That also featured a short interview which, may or may not, be missing here if it is indeed that version (I need to find the tape!) However, this is pretty awesome despite the rather rough start and ending!! Paul Rodgers is in fine form and Simon Kirke pushes the track along like his life depends on it. Sadly it has the strange 'chord' sequence in the middle rather than a full out blast from Koss (no wonder he felt he was getting squashed). I once asked Andy Fraser about this and he said he had absolutely no idea what possessed then to put that in the song there, replacing the solo. Lovely to see Kossoff smiling however. Absolutely outstanding.

The clip can be found where it was originally posted on Youtube here
Thanks to  S-M-S for putting this gem up.

FOOTNOTE. Seems this footage is from the Swiss TV show  'Hits A Go Go'.
It was broadcast on December 16th, 1970.
